Chihuahuas in Nigeria

The Chihuahua is a small breed of dog. Chihuahuas come in a wide variety of sizes, head shapes, colours, and coat lengths. Chihuahuas are often either long- or short-haired; however, the Chihuahuas that live in Nigeria might have rather a short fur due to the hot temperatures there (heatstroke can be fatal for dogs). Chihuahuas are known for their large eyes and ears. They also possess very strong tail-bones; it is said that they can break an average man’s wrist bone with one good bite.

The Chihuahua is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of dog, in Mexico. Chihuahuas have been found buried in Chichen Itza, near Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City), which was the capital of the Aztec Empire. Chihuahuas were also sacred, and only royalty could own them. Chihuahuas are known to be fiercely loyal to their owners; if their owners die or abandon them, Chihuahuas will usually prefer death over living with a new owner. Chihuahuas can become very anxious when away from their owners for long periods of time.

The Chihuahua is a popular pet in Nigeria because it is small enough that an apartment or house can accommodate them easily. They do not need to go out often, either; they might go out once every few days depending on the Chihuahua. Chihuahuas are not very active, which means they might be ideal for someone who does not have much time to give toward the care of their dog. Chihuahuas can get along with kids or other dogs, but owners should always supervise interactions to prevent injury. Chihuahuas live an average of twelve to seventeen years, making them a fairly long-lived breed. Chihuahuas are readily available in Nigeria due to importation from South Africa, Europe and America.

Because Chihuahuas do not take up very much space and require little maintenance, they are perfect for people looking for an affordable pet that will provide companionship without taking up too much room. However, Chihuahuas are delicate and should not be physically handled roughly. Chihuahuas can learn to behave in a house, but they do require training and exercise to prevent them from becoming anxious and destructive. Chihuahuas also need time to adjust when they first come home; new owners should allow Chihuahuas to explore the area slowly while offering reassurance so that their Chihuahua learns it has nothing to fear. Chihuahuas often bark at strangers but become very attached once an owner gains their trust.
