Description
The Pekingese is a small dog that originated in China as a lap dog. They have been bred for centuries to be companions to royalty, and because of their long, flowing hair, they were also known as “sleeve dogs”. Their name means “little lion”, which references their lion-like mane of hair.
The Pekingese is known for its distinctive, flattened face and small stature. It has a thick coat with long hair on its ears, back, tail and legs. The coat can be straight or curly, but should never be wavy. The colors of the coat vary from white to red, black or brown; however, there are also some rare colors such as blue or fawn (which is lighter than brown).
The Pekingese has very small feet with toes that point outwards; however they should not turn inwards at all. They have a small chest and short legs that give them an awkward gait when they walk on a leash due to their short stride length compared to the length of their body height – this makes them look like miniature lions when they walk around!
Pekingese are a little different than other dogs. They’re very short and compact, with a heavy coat of fur that ranges from black to gold. Their ears are tufted and stand up straight, and their eyes are large and round. They have a long, straight tail that is carried high over their backs.
They were originally bred to be companion dogs for Chinese royalty, but they soon became popular among the common people as well. Pekingese were considered to be good luck charms, so they were often given as gifts to newlyweds or used as wedding presents from parents to their children.
Pekingese can make good pets for families with older children who understand how to handle them properly; however, because of their small size, they might not be suitable for homes with small children or elderly people who need assistance getting around easily on their own feet without having to worry about tripping over something in their path (like a little dog!).
